"Charming. . . the best in the series."--Publishers Weekly Read the Entire Review |
"Sacramento talk radio host Shauna J. Bogart returns for an encore sure to win her new fans." |
" Effervescent, feisty, and wryly humorous, Shauna is a sleuth to watch out for. Highly recommended.

"brash, bouncy" |
Shauna J. Bogart returns for her second adventure in Slip Cue. Shauna J. comes to the rescue of a pop music diva known as Jasmine who is accused of killing a disk jockey who may-or may not-have sabotaged her career back in the 1970s. When Jasmine manages to escape from jail, it's up to good ol' Shauna J. to track her down before the cops do, and to expose the real killer.
As in the first book in the series, Murder Off Mike, most of the action takes place in and around in the talk radio station in Sacramento, Calif., though Shauna J. does make a couple of trips to the coast in search of Jasmine. The colorful supporting cast from Book One is back as well-Glory Lou, Josh, T.R. O'Brien, Pete Kovacs, and even Bialystock the cat.
The action climaxes as Shauna J. is about to be inducted into the Broadcast Legends Hall of Fame. After a nasty-and wet-encounter at the radio towers at the east end of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, our heroine manages to unmask the killer and once again score a win for uncensored, independent broadcasting and feisty, independent women around the world.
"So vividly does the author describe the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee and the streets and heat of the city in May, one can hear the music, feel the crowds. . . . this riveting mystery will leave readers eager for more." |
"Krieg's debut reads like the work of a seasoned
mystery writer--in many ways, in fact, it reads better than the work of many
genre veterans." |
"Funny, feisty Shauna J., whose debut won the 2002 St. Martin's Press/Malice Domestic contest for Best First Traditional Mystery, is certainly a keeper." |
"Incruckin' fedible!" |
Murder Off Mike introduces Shauna J. Bogart, a smart and sassy radio talk show host/amateur sleuth. Shauna J. is used to dealing with the controversial, the contentious, the cranky, and the just plain crazed as the host of the afternoon gab-fest on the top-rated station in California's state capital. But nothing prepares her for the day a fellow shock jock turns up with a bullet in his head. The cops say it's suicide, but Shauna J. isn't buying it. She launches her own investigation, putting herself at peril.
Her investigation, aided and abetted by her loyal callers, leads her to a shattering secret that could derail the campaign of the leading candidate for governor. Meanwhile, behind-the-scenes shenanigans involving a major corporate chain threaten the very existence of the radio station Shauna J. calls home.
The action climaxes in a down-to-the-second pursuit through the streets of historic Old Sacramento during the city's world-famous Jazz Jubilee. Armed with only a roll of copper wire, a pirate radio transmitter, and her ingenuity, Shauna J. gets the station back on the air just in time to reveal the truth to her listeners.
Without revealing too much of the plot, and certainly without spoiling the ending, I can only say that for you radio folk who are victims of the corporate consolidations, you'll find it a very satisfying read.
